The Nasarawa State House of Assembly Complex has been closed down to avert a breakdown of law and order following the emergence of two speakers for the seventh assembly.
The state Police spokesperson DSP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed this on Wednesday in Lafia.
Nansel said the sealing was in compliance with the directive by the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Maiyaki Mohammed-Baba.
He said the commissioner gave the directive after consultation with other security agencies in the state.
The members-elect on Tuesday, June 6 held two parallel proceedings resulting in the emergence of two different speakers for the assembly.
An unusual heavy security presence was noticed at the complex on Wednesday.
It would be recalled that Governor Abdullahi Sule Nasarawa State indefinitely postponed the inauguration of the 24 members-elect for the seventh Assembly earlier scheduled Tuesday, June 6.
The acting Clerk of the House, Ibrahim Musa, said the postponement was attributed to security advice made available to the Governor of the state, Abdullahi Sule.
The statement read, “The acting Clerk, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Ibrahim Musa wishes to inform all Hon. Members – elect and the General public that based on Security advice, the scheduled inauguration of the first session of the 7th Assembly as directed by His Excellency the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State Engr. “We regret any inconveniences this postponement may have caused.”
