The Kaduna State Police Command has apprehended 580 suspects for various crimes, including kidnapping, armed robbery, phone snatching, and theft.
State Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Rabiu, disclosed this while briefing journalists on recent achievements made by the Command between December 31, 2024, and February 10, 2025.
The operations were intelligence-driven and involved collaboration with other security agencies.
Among the suspects paraded are 20 alleged kidnappers, 32 armed robbers, 320 phone snatchers, and five car thieves. The police successfully rescued 30 kidnapped victims, who have been reunited with their families.
Recovered items included 34 motorcycles, 10 motor vehicles, four AK-47 rifles, a submachine gun, two pistols, 28 rounds of live ammunition, and 20 bags of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
The Commissioner highlighted key arrests, including the capture of two suspected informants, Inusa Ibrahim and Hamisu Musa, in Kangimin Gobirawa Village. The duo, both 18, allegedly provided names of potential kidnapping targets to bandits. They reportedly confessed after being caught making suspicious calls.
In Mando, police apprehended two notorious motorcycle thieves, Ibrahim Abubakar and Surakatu Usman, who allegedly attacked victims using sledgehammers or strangled them with cables. Their receiver, Yahya Muhammad, was also arrested, and five stolen motorcycles were recovered.
Further investigations led to the arrest of criminal receivers Ibrahim Nura and Musa Abdullahi in Rigasa. Authorities recovered 16 motorcycles and three tricycles from the suspects, who confessed to being part of a larger theft syndicate.
In another breakthrough, the police apprehended a notorious car thief, Abubakar, at a hotel in Mando. A stolen Toyota Yaris, reportedly taken from Kano, was recovered. The suspect, known for multiple car thefts and previous prison stints, remains in custody.
On February 2, 2025, security operatives acting on intelligence foiled a bandit operation in Kajuru Local Government Area. The intervention led to the rescue of 23 kidnapped victims as the armed bandits fled.
