Some unidentified police officers have mercilessly beat up a Kano-based All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Abdulmalik Danbilki Kwamanda, for allegedly insulting Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani.
The veteran politician was seen in a video that went viral on Thursday, handcuffed and being mercilessly beaten by some people he later revealed were police officers.
The assailants were seen in the video interrogating Mr Kwamanda, asking why he insulted Governor Sani. The men who were in mufti, flogged him as he denied the allegations.
The APc chieftain was seen telling his assailants that he was suffering from diabetes and heart problems, but the security personnel continued their assault, ordering him to kneel down.
In another video, Mr Kwamanda was seen shirt-less with bruises all over his body. He said in the second video that the assailants first abducted him, took him to an office, where he was handcuffed and subsequently beaten.
“They threatened to kill me and dump my corpse. It was hell. They beat me up mercilessly without regards to my health conditions and age,” he said.
He said that he may recognise some of the police officers and where he was taken and beaten that fateful night.
In a reaction on Thursday, the Kaduna State government denied ordering the assault on Kwamanda.
It said it had ordered “full blown investigation” into the incident.
A statement signed by Uba Sani’s spokesperson, Muhammad Lawal Shehu, said, “The Kaduna State Government wishes to strongly disassociate itself from the heinous act. It is not in our character. Such barbaric acts have no place in a decent society.”
“We stand for the rule of law and due process. Our administration is anchored on justice, equity, fairness, inclusivity and respect for the dignity of the human person.
“Since assuming office in May 2023, Kaduna State Government under the able leadership of Senator Uba Sani has been working assiduously to rebuild trust and give all citizens of the State a sense of belonging. We accommodate all shades of opinion and have created a conducive atmosphere for all political views to thrive.
“His Excellency, Governor Uba Sani has therefore ordered full investigation into the alleged incident. He is determined to get to the root of the incident and will ensure that the full wrath of the law is brought to bear on anyone found culpable.”
