Police in Edo State have killed five suspected bandits in a gun duel.
Luck ran out of the suspected kidnappers as they bid to seize expatriate workers with Okumo Oil Palm Plantation in Ovia North-East Local Government of the state.
Spokesperson of the state police command, Bello Kontongs, revealed that the police received information that notorious kidnappers had concluded plans and were about to strike.
Kotongs said the police immediately went after the suspected kidnappers who on sighting the security team began the gun battle.
“In the ensuing gun battle, the operatives neutralised five of the suspected kidnappers while others escaped with gunshot injuries,” the PPRO said.
He said the police are on the trail of the other fleeing gang members for possible arrest.
One AK 47, one single barrel cut to size gun, one long barrel gun and eight live cartridges were recovered from the kidnappers.
