The Kano State Police Command has foiled attempts to traffic suspected explosive materials and illicit drugs in two separate operations, leading to the arrest of a suspect.
The development was contained in a statement issued and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Kano State Command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
According to the statement, the operations, was carried out by officers of the Rijiyar Lemo Police Division and the Anti-Daba Unit, followed directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on enhanced intelligence gathering and intelligence-led policing.
It explained that in the first operation, conducted on January 13, 2026, police officers attached to the Rijiyar Lemo Division, acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, executed a search warrant at a residence in Tudun Bojuwa Quarters, Fagge Local Government Area and during the search, two large sacks containing suspected incriminating materials were recovered.
“A team from the Command’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) unit carried out identification of the items and police said one sack contained six rolls of detonating cords, while the other had 20 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa and 220 sachets of suspected Exol tablets. Investigation into the matter is ongoing,” the statement said.
It added that in the second operation, officers of the Anti-Daba Unit, while on intelligence-led surveillance patrol at Sani Mainagge Quarters in Gwale Local Government Area, intercepted a commercial tricycle rider conveying three bags suspected to contain heavy materials and further examination by the EOD-CBRN experts revealed 3,700 pieces of electric detonators while the tricycle rider led police to the arrest of a suspect identified as Ibrahim Garba, also known as “Manyan Baki,” aged 49, from Zamfara State.
In the statement the police said the suspect confessed to facilitating the movement of the materials from Nasarawa State to other destinations and Investigation is also continuing on the case.
According to the statement while commending the officers involved, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements, items or activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines.
