A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Isah Abdullahi, attached to the armoury of the 12 Police Mobile Force in Minna, the Niger State capital, has reportedly taken his own life by shooting himself.
The DSP committed suicide after he was accused of supplying arms to terrorists in the state.
The spokesperson of the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, who revealed this, said the late DSP Isah was arrested on December 15, 2025, over allegations of illegal arms dealing.
Abiodun said during an investigation and arms audit conducted on December 16, 2025, to establish missing rifles and ammunition, Isah reportedly shot himself in the head with a pistol and died instantly.
He said the officers who carried out the audit and investigation had been arrested for negligence by allowing the suspect to die without being properly investigated.
“On December 16, 2025 at about 2.30 pm, one DSP Abdullahi Isah attached to 12pmf Minna, who was initially arrested on 15th December for being suspected to be involved in illegal dealings of ammunition, was taken to his office for a routine arms audit, and unfortunately while the audit process was ongoing, the said officer shot himself on the head, through a pistol he picked within the office and died on the spot.
“Meanwhile, the policemen who were detailed along for the audit and investigation activities were arrested for negligence in the line of duty, to have allowed such a situation to occur. Further investigation is in progress,” Abiodun said.
Isah reportedly supplied arms and ammunition to terrorists through another colleague in the state.
