The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have deployed 25,000 personnel to Osun state to ensure peaceful conduct of the Saturday, August 15, 2026 governorship election.
Fifteen candidates are contesting the governorship election, including the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party; the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji; and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam.
The security personnel have locked down key institutions and strategic areas, including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Osogbo, to protect sensitive voting materials
The police have deployed 15,000 officers, while the NSCDC drafted 10,210 personnel into the state.
The department includes specialised units such as the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, K9 detector dog squads, and specialized crack teams.
The police said they are actively utilizing helicopters and surveillance drones to monitor the state’s 30 Local Government Areas.
