The police have arrested a suspected female gunrunner and six other men allegedly involved in drug trafficking in different operations in Nasarawa and Yobe States.
The suspected female gunrunner identified as 30-year-old Hauwa Sani of Doro village, was arrested at the Keffi/Abuja Expressway.
Spokesperson of the Nigerian police force, Assistant Commissioner of Police ACP Muyiwa Adejobi revealed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja, adding that the lady was arrested on December 23, 2024 in possession of 124 rounds of live ammunition of various calibres.
He said she concealed the items inside a five-litre container of palm oil.
“She confessed that one Nasiru of Daura tasked her to deliver the ammunition to Katsina State,” Adejobi said.
He said further investigations led to more recoveries and arrests which were being documented.
Adejobi revealed that on February 1st, 2025, the police arrested 50-year-old Alhaji Usman, Joseph Matthew, 27 and Solomon Bala 25, all residents of Potiskum, Yobe State transporting 30 cartons of codeine syrups and other various hard drugs around Potiskum.
“They confessed that the drugs were intended for supply to bandits, Boko Haram insurgents, and kidnappers terrorizing Yobe State and neighbouring countries,” the statement said.
According to the police spokesperson, three others, Yusuf Dantani, Usman Labaran and Musa Mohammed, were nabbed on February 3rd, 2025 with 10 AK-47 rifles, adding that the suspects admitted being involved in several arms deals and receiving N3,980,000 for the last batch of arms they were supposed to trade.
