The Kano State Police Command has arrested 51 suspects over alleged thuggery.
The suspects were arrested during a clearance operation in some criminal hideouts in some parts of Kano metropolis.
The areas cleared according to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer SP Abdullahi Kiyawa include Kano Municipal, Dala, Gwale, and Tarauni Local Government Areas.
The statement revealed that the three-day operation led to the arrest of fifty-one (51) suspects and the recovery of dangerous weapons and illicit drugs.
It further stated that the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has strongly issued a warning against brandishing weapons in the name of traditional performances, including “Gangi,” as well as displaying dangerous weapons on social media platforms like TikTok, Facebook, X(Twitter), Instagram, etc. which encourages and recruits teenagers to engage in thuggery-related crimes.
“The Command urges parents and guardians to monitor their children/wards’ activities and report any suspicious behaviour as anyone caught committing such acts will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly. Parents who conspire with their children/wards to keep such dangerous weapons in their homes, and blacksmiths who fabricate such for them will be investigated as well,” said the statement.
