Residents of Sapiyo and Bangala communities, Wase local government of Plateau State, have called on security agencies to come to aid over rising cases of kidnapping in the area.
Youth leader of Wase, Shapi’i Sambo Haruna, told journalists on Wednesday that said kidnappers now operate in the day with guns and other sophisticated weapons, without resistance from security operatives.
He said the incessant attacks of kidnappers have prevented business activities and caused a lot of hardship in the affected areas.
“The kidnappers currently prevent residents from going about their legitimate activities and due to that, yesterday, security personnel, vigilantes and other youths of Wase went to some of their hideouts but already fled,” he said.
“We suspected that they have informants in some of the villages who often alert them of our movement.
“The security personnel are trying their best but we still need more force to get rid of the criminals in the areas.
“We also call on youths not to be undermining our efforts because if care is not taken, the problem would consume everybody including those undermining our efforts.”
Shapi’i urged residents of the affected areas to be vigilant and proactive in roder to curb insecurity in their areas.
