The Plateau State House of Assembly has declared the seat of speaker, Abok Ayuba, vacant.
Abok was removed as speaker in a controversial circumstance and the litigation over the matter is still ongoing.
He defected from the All Progressives Congress APC to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) last weekend.
His seat was declared vacant at the plenary presided by Yakubu Sanda who took charge as Speaker after Aboki’s removal.
APC had written to the House, urging the Speaker to declare Abok’s seat vacant following his defection to the opposition party.
The party said Aboki’s action contravened section 109 (1) of the 1999 Constitution.
