The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the 2023 election in Sokoto State, Malam Sa’idu Umar Ubandoma, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a major political development ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ubandoma was received into the APC by the party’s leader in the State, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, at his residence in Asokoro, Abuja, on Tuesday.
Until his defection, Ubandoma was a prominent figure in the political camp of former Sokoto State governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.
Ubandoma served as Commissioner for Finance and later as Secretary to the Sokoto State Government during the Tambuwal administration before emerging as the PDP governorship candidate in the 2023 election.
Ubandoma attributed his move to what he described as the quality of leadership provided by Senator Wamakko and the performance of Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration.
He said the government’s achievements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, rural development and other sectors convinced him that the APC offers the best platform for the continued development of Sokoto State.
Receiving the former PDP governorship candidate, Senator Wamakko described the defection as a major boost for the APC, saying it reflected the growing confidence of political leaders in the party’s leadership and development agenda.
He assured Ubandoma and his supporters of equal treatment and full integration into the affairs of the party, stressing that the APC remains open to all citizens committed to the peace, unity and development of Sokoto State.
