Youths, under the aegis of “Save PDP Group,” have called for the immediate sack of the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus.
The youths stormed the national secretariat of the party bearing placards with different messages asking for the party leaders to do the needful by impressing on the national chairman to step down.
The protest came at a time governors elected under the party’s platform are in closed-door meeting at the Akwa Ibom Lodge in Asokoro deliberating on how to resolve the crisis that currently engulfed the party.
Tamunotonye Inioribo, who led the protest, accused Secondus of polarizing the party and causing mass defection of top stakeholders to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He said the youths were particularly unhappy with the defection of three governors and some National Assembly members, while Secondus “sits in Abuja and is scheming for a second term.”
He noted with dismay the resignation last week of seven members of the National Working Committee, describing the situation as “disturbing and unacceptable”.
He also accused the national chairman of exacerbating the crisis in state chapters and other party organs because of his alleged selfish interest.
He warned the national chairman to tow the path of honour and step down or be forced out.
