The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday at a meeting with leaders of the PDP advised that the party should abide by the Supreme Court order which upheld Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary.
The apex court on March 21, 2025, in resolving the case bordering the party’s National Secretary, ruled that it was an internal affairs of a political party which is not justiciable.
Justice Jamilu Tukur, who headed a five-member panel, while ruling on the matter declared that the issue of who is the National Secretary of the PDP was strictly that of the party.
A member of the party Aniagu Emmanuel had challenged the sued an earlier reinstatement of Anyanwu as PDP National Secretary at a lower court and Appeal Court who all ruled in his favour, but the the Supreme court overturned the judgements of the two lower courts.
The party has also suspended its planned National Executive Committee meeting fixed for June 30, following a meeting with the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The party’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, disclosed this, saying the decision was difficult but widely accepted by key stakeholders.
Damagum who was flanked by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, and other party stakeholders, confirmed the party has resolved to reintegrate Anyanwu into the National Working Committee.
He said “Senator Samuel Anyanwu has been reinstated in the NWC. It was a difficult decision, and it was accepted by many members of the party led by the organs of the party.
“We will have an expanded caucus meeting which will take a decision leading to a proper NEC.
“Anyanwu is resuming as the National Secretary, that is why I said it was a critical decision. Like INEC said, they don’t have our notice, so what we will have on June 30th is an expanded Caucus.”
