The elective zonal congresses of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been postponed to allow for the resolution of disputes among its chieftains especially south west.
The party’s National Organizing Secretary, Col Austin Akobundu (rtd), had in a statement announced the postponement of the zonal congress, the party also extended the tenures of Zonal Caretaker Committees for South-West, North-Central and North-West for more 30 days beginning from March 10, 2021, when the current tenure expires.
The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, said the party was interested in reconciling all warring members before conducting the congresses.
Ologbondiyan said the reconciliation drive of the Bukola Saraki-led committee would harmonize all the various interests and resolve the crisis.
21st Century Chronicle recalls that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and former governor of Ekiti State Ayo Fayose are at loggerheads fighting to control the party in the region.
It is learnt that while Fayose supports the immediate past Chairman, Dr. Eddy Olafeso, to return to the position, Makinde is strongly rooting for a former deputy governor of Oyo State, Taofik Arapaja.
