Ahead of its state congresses scheduled to hold nationwide on July 27, governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are meeting in Enugu.
Ten of the 13 governors elected on the party’s platform are already in the Enugu State Government House for the meeting holding today (Wednesday).
The governors present include Oluwaseyi Makinde of Oyo; Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom; Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta; Bala Mohammed of Bauchi; Godwin Obaseki of Edo; Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau; Agbu Kefas of Taraba; and Dauda Lawal of Zamfara.
Others are Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa; Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers; and the host governor, Peter Mbah.
The governors of Osun and Bayelsa states, Ademola Adeleke and Duoye Diri, respectively were yet to arrive at the time of filing this report.
As at press time, the agenda for the meeting remained unclear.
It was learnt that the Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Umar Damagum, and other key party leaders would attend the governors’ meeting.
The state congresses of the party would hold nationwide on July 27, and it is expected to be among issues to be discussed, as well as preparation for the forthcoming Edo and Ondo states off-season governorship election.
Also likely to be discussed by the governors is the recent Supreme Court judgment granting financial autonomy to local governments, and the mass decamping of top party members in Imo, and Abia states as well as the recent defection of the former President of the Senate, Pius Anyim and others to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
