The opposition Peoples Democratic Party PDP has expressed shock at the foiled assassination of Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State.
Ortom’s convoy was attacked at Tyo-Mu community along Makurdi-Gboko road on Saturday by unknown gunmen.
The governor has accused herdsmen of being behind his attempted assassination and has promised to petition the federal government.
The PDP in it official Twitter account as revealed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary Kola Ologbondiyan said the attack on the governor’s convoy is coming on the heels of Ortom’s passionate demand to the federal government to be alive to securing lives and property in Nigeria.
The party is therefore demanding “a public inquest into this reckless attack on Governor Ortom as our party also calls on the Nigerian police to commence immediate investigation and arrest of the assailants.”
