The Gombe State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed shock at the destruction of the campaign office of its governorship candidate for the 2023 election, Alhaji Jibrin Danbarde.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE reports that the Gombe State Urban Planning Development Board, citing lack of obtaining approval, pulled down the structure that is located directly near the Presidential Lodge in Gombe.
The structure was demolished on Tuesday, August 30, 2022.
Describing the action of the Government of Gombe State as intolerant, the Secretary of the PDP in the state, Alhaji Adamu H. Abubakar, in a statement late Thursday night, said the move is a “dangerous trend and threatening the 2023 general elections in the once peaceful state.”
He said, “for the second time in this year alone, the Government of Gombe State has sent its agents of destruction being paid with taxpayers’ money to unleash terror on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by destroying the campaign office of the party’s governorship candidate Alhaji Jibrin Danbarde who commands more than 90 percent followership in our dear state.”
He said the latest destruction of the office was a contempt of the law and an assault on the sensibility of the people by pulling down Alhaji Danbarde’s Campaign Office in total disregard for an injunction granted by Gombe State High Court on July 22, 2022.
“The state governor has exhibited similar undemocratic intolerant behavior when on March 23, 2022, he sent his agents to demolish Alhaji Danbarde’s campaign office even before he convincingly won a hotly contest PDP primaries,” the state secretary noted
He noted that since the first destruction could not deter Alhaji Danbarde from emerging as the PDP candidate, how does he think the latest one can stop the people’s will?
According to Alhaji Abubakar,” for a sitting governor to disobey a recognized Court order is a brazen display of rascality and contempt for law, an act which is not only condemnable but reprehensible.
“Governor Inuwa surely knows that due to his non-performance, the Gombe state indigenes are not only tired of him and his administration, they are equally resolute in their determination to implement the APC mantra “Change” against him, what the Hausa would say dara za ta ci gida.
“The Party is far above the current machination by the state government to derail the peace we currently enjoy in the state as such we would not join issues with Governor Inuwa by taking revenge. We are mature, sensible, and morally upright.”
