Some passengers were burnt to death in a an accident at Aloma in Ofu local government area of Kogi state, Sunday morning.
A witness said the accident involved two buses and occurred in front of Aloma Teachers’ College.
A Siena bus filled to capacity and an oncoming opposite Toyota bus collided in an attempt to evade a pothole on the road and caught fire immediately, burning all the occupants to death.
A local of Aloma said “All the passengers in the Toyota bus, including the driver were burnt to death.
“Those in the sienna bus too were burnt, with no survivor. An articulated vehicle that packed nearby the place of incident also caught fire in the process and burnt to ashes. A house closer to the area was also destroyed by the raging inferno.
“We are yet to confirm of any survivor, except those in the packed articulated vehicle.”
Adejo said the villagers could not rescue some trapped passengers due to absence of combustible fighting equipment.
The sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC ), Samuel Ayedeji, said he was in a meeting when contacted over the incident.
Kogi state police spokesperson, SP Williams Aya, was yet to respond to text message or calls at the time of filing this report.
