Prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders in Oyo State on Wednesday endorsed Dr. Eddy Olafeso as their candidate for the chairmanship position of the party in the South West.
Olafeso was the candidate of former Ekiti state governor, Ayo Fayose.
The leaders, which included Chief Nureni Akanbi, Alhaji Bisi Olopoeyan and Femi Babalola, disclosed in a statement after a meeting in Ibadan.
The South West PDP is expected to hold its congress to elect its leaders very soon, but Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and former Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State have been at loggerheads over the plan to return Olafeso, who is from Ondo State.
While Fayose is backing Olafeso, Makinde is not. Olafeso resigned from the post to contest the PDP governorship primary in Ondo State in 2020.
