A son to the late Major General Rabe Abubakar (rtd), Isyaka Rabe, has debunked claims by the Katsina State Government that his father suffered diabetes or high blood pressure.
Isiyaka told Deutsche Welle (DW) that reports suggesting that diabetes was responsible for his father’s death was not correct.Acc
He said some people believed the late General might have died from a snake bite, based on the last video released by the kidnappers.
He, however, said only God knows what was responsible for his father’s death.
Isyaka said his father was a devout Muslim and highly religious, peace-loving man who lived a simple life.
He said the late general died a hero and prayed for the peaceful repose of his father’s soul.
Isyaka said, “WhenI announced the time for my father’s funeral prayer, many people began asking how the body was recovered. I told them I did not know and that they should direct such questions to the government.”
According to him, his mother is still with the kidnappers, to dispute reports circulating on social media that she had been released.
Isiyaka said emphatically that “take it from me, our mother is still in captivity. She has not been released.”
Meanwhile, one of Isiyaka’s sisters, Adda Abubakar, had earlier posted on her X handle, @Addahaleem, that her father did not suffer from diabetes, adding that a snake bite was the actual cause of his death.
The late general and his wife were kidnapped on May 30, 2026, along the Marabar Musawa–Kafinsoli Road in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.
He died while in the custody of his abductors.
However, the Katsina State Government had announced that the late general died from complications of diabetes and hypertension.
Family members and others have insisted that he the general diedvafter being bitten by a snake while being held captive by the kidnappers.
