The Osun State Government has empowered over 100 livestock farmers with 2,000 day-old-chicks as part of efforts to ensure food security and empower young farmers.
The government also distributed feed-mills, vaccines and drugs to farmers, in the initiative anchored under the Osun Broilers Outgrowers Production Scheme (OBOPS-III), aimed at eliminating poverty and enhance the production capacity of the livestock farmers in the state.
The state Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Dayo Adewole, during the distribution exercise at Ara Junction in Ede, said the initiative was designed to support farmers particularly the youth and women who could not afford to secure the chicks.
He said the scheme was designed to attract and encourage the young ones to agriculture particularly livestock production.
Represented by the Director of Livestock Services in the ministry, Amos Daramola, the commissioner said the government had adequate vaccines, drugs, and feed-mills that would last the beneficiaries for six years.
While reiterating the efforts of the state Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, in revamping the agricultural sector, Daramola urged the beneficiaries of the scheme to avail themselves of the multifaceted advantages in the initiative.
Some beneficiaries, Nurudeen Ibrahim and Oguntuwase Adenike registered their profound gratitude to the government for prioritising agriculture and the welfare of farmers in the State.
The duo hailed the initiative, noting that government had made the scheme more lucrative and enterprising for livestock farmers in the state.
