The immediate past governor of Benue State, Chief Samuel Ortom, said on Saturday that he is not contesting any elective position in the 2027 general elections.
Ortom’s spokesperson Dr Terver Akase, made the clarification in Makurdi.
It was reported in social media that Ortom has declared his intention to contest for the Benue North-West Senatorial seat in 2027.
“I have no intention whatsoever to contest any elective office in 2027. I have said this clearly, publicly, and repeatedly.
“I expect that a position stated this plainly would not require translation or creative reinterpretation,” he said.
He said he is committed to supporting democratic ideals, strengthening the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and offering statesmanlike guidance and not to chase elective office in 2027.
He urged the public to treat the report for what it is: “a fabrication”.
