The United Kingdom (UK) is set to reduce travel restrictions it recently placed on some countries, including Nigeria, following the discovery of the Omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus, according to a UK newspaper, Daily Mail.
The newspaper reported that the Transport Secretary, Grant Shapps, had been able to convince his colleagues that the restrictions should be replaced with testing for the fully vaccinated.
The new measure is coming as the Nigerian government announced it will place the UK, Canada, and Saudi Arabia on its travel ban list on Tuesday.
British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, had on Wednesday promised to re-examine the UK’s policy following claims that it was unfair and ineffective.
The proposal to reduce the travel restrictions is expected to be approved this week, according to the report.
