The United Kingdom has banned flights from Nigeria with effect from Monday.
The UK Mission in Nigeria said Nigeria will be added to the red list for international travel to England, from 4am on December 6, 2021.
The Federal Government had, on Wednesday, confirmed three cases of the Omicron variant from travellers from South Africa.
The UK ban came after Canada applied the same measure against Nigeria after detecting the variant from travellers who landed the country from Nigeria
Travellers from Nigeria must now quarantine in a hotel for 10 days, according to UK authority.
The statement said the measure was a result of 21 recent cases of COVID-19 variant B.1.1.529 (Omicron) linked to travels from Nigeria.
“In light of the most recent data, we are taking further action to slow the incursion of the Omicron variant,” the statement said.
