Justice Olukayode Ariwoola has been appointed as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).
This is coming hours after the resignation of Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhamamd on Monday.
Justice Tanko resigned days after he was accused of corruption by 14 justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
He disclosed his resignation in a letter he forwarded to President Muhammadu Buhari.
The immediate past CJN was appointed after the resignation of Justice Onnoghen, who was indicted and tried for corruption.
The 14 Supreme Court justices, in a memo, accused Justice Muhammad of not giving justices their legitimate entitlements which include denial of their annual foreign training, meant to enhance capacity building for the country’s judicial process, had been blocked by Muhammad.
Justice Ariwoola took oath of office at the Presidential Villa Abuja on Monday,
He swore to be faithful and bear true allegiance to the Federal Government of Nigeria, as well as defend the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Justice Ariwoola will act as CJN pending the time his name will be forwarded to the Senate by the president for confirmation as substantive CJN.
He was born on 22 August 1958 in Oyo State.
