A female personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) was crushed to death by an ’ operational vehicle belonging to the corps during a simulation drill in Abuja.
A viral video circulating on social media shows when the officer was knocked down and run over by the patrol vehicle making a turn as part of the coordinated exercise.
The female personnel fell beneath the vehicle after hitting her.
The driver eventually stopped the vehicle as colleagues and bystanders rushed to the scene.
Some personnel had to lift the vehicle to free her before emergency responders arrived and evacuated her.
The NSCDC spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, confirmed the incident, saying the corps had lost one of its personnel “during the simulation exercise. Our senior officers are on their way to the residence of the deceased to pay our condolences.”
Babawale said the corps had commenced internal procedures in response to the incident and would provide further details.
The identity of the deceased officer had not been officially disclosed as at press time.
