The Northern Governors’ Forum will hold a crucial meeting on Saturday
in Kaduna in response to the rising killings across the region.
Spokesperson of Gombe State Governor, Ismaila Misili stated this, adding that his principal, Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, who is the NGF Chairman, convened the meeting.
“It will be held in Kaduna, and security will top the agenda. Barring any last-minute change, they have already decided to have the meeting. But I wouldn’t call it an emergency meeting,” Misilli stated.
It would be recalled that a joint meeting of the NGF and the Northern Traditional Rulers Council was held in Kaduna in October 2023 to tackle the region’s rising security and developmental challenges.
The meeting took place at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House in Kaduna, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa in attendance.
Despite collective and individual sustained efforts by northern governors and the military, no fewer than 250 people had been killed within two weeks in attacks that ravaged key northern states, including Plateau, Benue, Borno, and Katsina.
Suspected new terror group, Mahmuda, also known as the Mallam Group has been accused of responsibility.
Also, from Boko Haram, ISWAP, Lakurawa, and other militia groups had continuously killed innocent villagers, vigilantes including security forces.
The situation compelled governor’s of North East and their North Central counterparts to begin a joint operation which as at press time were yet to take off.
