Condolences and tributes as well as eulogies have started flowing after the death of famous Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi.
The scholar died in the early hours of Thursday at the age of 98.
Deputy Senate President Barau I. Jibrin described Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi’s death as “a huge vacuum that will be difficult to fill”, extolling the scholar’s decades of unwavering service to Islam, humanity, and the global Muslim community.
In a statement by his spokesperson, Ismail Mudashir on Thursday in Abuja, Senator Barau said the renowned scholar and spiritual leader influenced millions across Nigeria and beyond through his preaching, scholarship and exemplary leadership.
“I mourn the passing of our renowned Islamic scholar and leader, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi — a great icon of Islamic scholarship whose light shone on millions of Muslims across Nigeria and beyond.
“Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi’s lifetime of service, his dedication to the Qur’an, tireless preaching, spiritual leadership over the Tijaniyya movement, and work establishing Qur’anic schools and humanitarian outreach changed lives and strengthened the faith of generations.”
Similarly, the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of renowned Islamic scholar and global Tijaniyyah spiritual leader, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi.
The Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, said the late scholar was extraordinary in depth whose life, teachings and spiritual guidance touched millions across generations.
He said Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi devoted his century-long life propagating Islam and immensely contributed to the study and understanding of the Qur’an, Hadith, Islamic jurisprudence, and the spiritual traditions of Sufism.
“Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi’s mastery of Islamic texts, combined with remarkable spiritual insight, distinguished him as a true guide for Muslims within and beyond Nigeria. His teachings enriched countless lives and will continue to illuminate generations to come,” Governor Yahaya said.
Governor Yahaya extended the condolences of the Northern Governors’ Forum to the family of the deceased, the Tijaniyyah community and the entire Muslim Ummah over what he described as a monumental loss.
He prayed to Almighty Allah to grant the eminent scholar eternal rest and reward his lifetime of devotion with Aljannatul Firdaus.
Also, Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has expressed profound grief over the death of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, OFR, Supreme Leader of Tijaniyyah in Nigeria.
In his message contained in a statement by his spokesperson, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed on Thursday in Katsina, Governor Radda described the scholar’s passing as a monumental loss to Nigeria, the Muslim Ummah, and humanity.
“Sheikh Dahiru Usman was not just a religious leader; he was a father, a guide, and a unifying force who transcended ethnic, political, and regional boundaries. His wisdom, humility, and commitment to peace inspired millions across Nigeria and beyond,” the governor stated.
The renowned Islamic Scholar died at the age of 98 in the early hours of Thursdat at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital.
His son, Sayyadi Ali Dahiru Usman Bauchi announced the death of his father, saying “Sheikh has returned to his creator. “It is time for Sheikh to rest. We thank Almighty Allah. Allah has done everything to us for sparing the life of Sheikh till this time. Sheikh’s life was well spent. Alhamdulillah.”
