The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has sacked the managing directors of its three refineries and 200 other workers.
The affected refineries are Port Harcourt Refining Company, Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company, and the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company.
Other top officials fired include Bala Wunti, a former chief of the National Petroleum Investment Management Services, a subsidiary of NNPCL.
The new management of the oil company also asked many officials with one year to their various retirement dates to leave.
Also asked to leave is Lawal Sade, the Chief Compliance Officer and former Managing Director of NNPC Trading.
The oil company has also appointed Maryam Idrisu as Managing Director of NNPC Trading and Obioma Abangwu as Chief Liaison Officer for Board Matters
There was no immediate statement from the company’s spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye, on Tuesday.
On April 2, 2025, President Bola Tinubu sacked the former NNPCL Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, and other board members of the national oil company, as part of a broader overhaul to boost Nigeria’s crude and gas output. Kyari had been at the helm of the national oil company since 2019.
