The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Zamfara Chapter, has commended the state government for providing free medical outreach to vulnerable persons across the state.
The state NMA Chairman, Dr Ibrahim Hano gave the commendation at a news conference in Gusau on Wednesday to mark the 2025 Physicians’ Week.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the NMA, during the event, presented items for nutrition, education, wash and hygiene to Gusau Orphanage Home as part of the activities to mark the week.
The theme for the NMA 2025 Physicians’ Week is: “Healthcare as a value chain: Building efficiency from policy to patient.”
Hano noted that the state government initiative had brought quality healthcare closer to thousands of citizens, particularly in rural and underserved communities.
According to him, the topic for this year’s Physicians’ Week encapsulates the urgent need for a coordinated, accountable and effective health system, where every component from policy formulation to patients’ care is optimized to deliver true value to Nigerians.
“The value chain applied to healthcare represents the continuum that begins with sound policies and strategic financing through efficient planning, an empowered workforce and effective service delivery that culminates into improved patient outcomes and public trust,” he said.
The NMA chairman said the association acknowledged and applauded the commitment of Zamfara government to human capital development and public health advancement.
“At this juncture, it is imperative to specially commend Governor Dauda Lawal for his unwavering commitment to the transformation of the state’s health sector.
“Under this administration, the state has witnessed a tremendous transformation through the remodeling and upgrading of hospitals, procurement and installation of state-of-the-art medical equipment and the procurement and distribution of essential drugs across the state.
According to him, the employment of new medical personnel, coupled with the implementation of a new salary structure for doctors and the prompt payment of salaries would also ensure effective healthcare service delivery in the state.
On the donation to the orphanage home, the state NMA chairman said it was under the directives of the National President of the association.
Hano said part of the activities of this week was to extend this gesture to the home of our younger ones since they were part of it he society
He assured that the NMA was ready to work with all levels of government, partners and the public to ensure that healthcare in Nigeria truly delivered value from policy to patient.
The Zamfara government had provided medical outreach to 3,447 patients with different cases in 10 phases across the state.
The programme, which started in June 2023, using tele-screening, provided specialist care to patients from rural and semi-urban areas in 14 local government areas of the state.
