There is no influx of terrorists from neighbouring Niger Republic and the Republic of Benin into New Bussa in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
Residents of the area made this known to dispel talks on it.
A video had circulated last week on social media showing a large group of terrorists linked to Boko Haram and Al-Qaeda vowing to occupy Kainji National Park.
This led to anxiety among residents of New Bussa, the headquarters of Borgu LGA, and its environs.
But the spokesperson of the Borgu Youths Development Association (BYDA), Yakubu Aliyu Bio, told DAILY TRUST that terrorists had used parts of Kainji National Park as hideouts, denied that there was an influx of terrorists into the area.
“It was confirmed earlier by security agents that the news was false. Although there was significant panic initially, the Park’s CG, who is a native of the area, also affirmed the information was inaccurate. Residents have since resumed their normal activities,” Yakubu said.
Another resident Yahaya Abdulsamad, said there were threats by terrorists sometimes back to the area, but saiod the video of a large influx from Niger and Benin Republics was unsubstanot truentiated.
“Last year, terrorists attempted to attack the army barracks. While there are reports of terrorists hiding around New Bussa, the recent claim of a large influx from Niger and Benin Republics has been confirmed untrue,” he said.
