Niger State Governor Abubakar Sani Bello says the state will reintroduce animal tax system as a way of ascertaining the actual number of nomads in order to curtail the activities bandits and rustlers.
The governor said this during his recent visit to Emir of Kagara in Rafi Local government area of the state.
He said the animal tax, when introduced, will afford the government a comprehensive data of animals and pastoralists in all communities across the state.
Bello said, henceforth, traditional institutions in the state would be given full responsibilities of adding value to security activities in their respective domains.
He said traditional rulers have been informed on the governments intention of the new tax policy.
