Niger State Governor Abubakar Sani Bello has called for joint security operations among the states affected by banditry towards ending the menace.
Governor Bello, according to a statement by his media aide, Mary Noel-Berje, disclosed this when he visited Ma’undu in Mariga local government area of the state, which has been deserted for about a year now due to banditry activities.
Niger is among the states referred to as epicenter of bandits’ activities with communities across five of its local government areas constantly under attacks.
Others are Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina, Kaduna and Kebbi.
Bello said the bandits usually cross over from neighbouring states particularly Zamfara State to carry out their nefarious activities and return back.
He said a synergy among the states affected by the activities of the bandits through sustained joint security operations, would end the menace, pointing out that individual state efforts would not yield the desired results.
He commended the security operatives for their gallantry in pushing the bandits out of Ma’undu community and promised continued support to the security personnel especially in the areas of logistics and welfare for optimum results.
