Niger State Governor Abubakar Sani Bello says the search is still ongoing on the whereabouts of the 10 missing people after a boat accident along river Zumba in Munya local government area of the state.
Thirty people drowned and 60 were rescued when a boat conveying 100 people from a local market capsized along the river on Saturday.
The governor described the incident as “disturbing”, as the people of the area were already battling insecurity.
Munya local government is one of the bandit hotspots in the state.
“I am deeply concerned with the incident that happened, particularly almost all of the victims were those affected by insecurity in their communities and were forced to flee their ancestral homes,” he said.
“I want you to know that the State and the federal governments have not abandoned you, and God too has not either, you should see what is happening now as trying moments which will soon pass by the grace of God.
“I am telling you the truth, we are making every necessary effort in addition to the weekly special prayers we have started to ensure that all the criminal elements in our State are flushed out.”
