The number of security agents killed by bandits last week in Shiroro, Niger state has risen to 48, a community association has said.
On Wednesday, bandits attacked a mining site killing scores of soldiers, policemen. civilians and abducting expatriates.
The convener of Concerned Shiroro Youths of Niger State, Sani Kokki, said on Sunday that more bodies were discovered by locals.
Kokki, while giving an update, said the death toll had risen to 48.
He said that the deceased were 34 soldiers, eight mobile policemen and six civilians.
Mr Kokki said, “Yesterday (Saturday) evening, the dead body of a mobile policeman was also discovered by a passerby.”
