New AGF takes over, promises zero corruption
The newly appointed Account-General of the Federation, Dr Oluwatoyin Madein, has urged staff of the office to shun all forms of corruption in the discharge of their duties.
Madein said this on Friday in Abuja, as she officially took over duties as AGF.
President Muhammadu Buhari had appointed Madein, the former Director of Finance and Accounts in the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation as AGF with effect from May 18.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that she replaced the former AGF, Ahmad Idris, who was suspended in 2022 over alleged fraud and is facing prosecution.
She received the handover notes from Mr Sylva Okolieabo, former acting AGF.
According to Madein, staff of the OAGF should remain focused and give useful advice when necessary on how to improve revenue generation for the government.
“We should help government to generate the required revenue to effectively execute all the developmental projects and programmes, while also blocking leakages in the revenue sector.
“I will crave your support to bring the ethics, core values and dictates of accounting profession into our jobs here, she said.
Also speaking, the erstwhile acting AGF, Okoliaeaboh, advised the new AGF to be fair to all, ready to tolerate and listen.
“This is an enormous task; it takes all your time and it can drain you. It is a high-profile, high-ewarding, high-risk job.
“To succeed you must surround yourself with capable hands, be fair to all, ready to tolerate, to listen and to learn, and manage the diversity of the office.
“You must be the Accountant General for all because you need everyone to perform, ” he said.
A former AGF and former governor of Gombe State, Ibrahim Dankwabo, urged the new AGF to always consult her older, retired colleagues for useful advice.
Dankwabo also called on the Federal Government to confirm the former acting AGF, Okolieaboh, as substantive AGF as he retires from the civil service
Also present at the ceremony were former AGFs, Mr John Naiyeju and Mr Jonah Otunla.
