A driver in the Office of Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, Daniel Ogoshi, has been seized by gunmen at Ombi 2, College of Agriculture.
The driver was kidnapped from a friend’s residence at about 9:30 pm on Tuesday night.
The gunmen however did not take the driver’s car and phone.
A family friend, who craves anonymity, said he received a call around 9 pm that Ogoshi had been abducted by gunmen.
The friend said on receiving the information, he immediately informed the police and they rushed to the scene, but the kidnappers had already fled with the victim.
The deputy governor’s spokesperson, Mr. Christopher Ehima, said he has been informed about the situation by some people, adding that Ogoshi is not the direct driver to the deputy governor.
He explained that he didn’t know what actually transpired that led to the abduction of the victim.
“I am shocked over the incident and assured that the state government would do everything humanly possible to secure the release of the kidnapped driver unhurt,” Ehima said
The state Police spokesperson, DSP Ramhan Nansel, said the police were on top of the matter to ensure that the victim is released unhurt.
It would be recalled that recently gunmen kidnapped a former deputy governor of the state, Professor Onje-Gye Wado, who was released after payment of N4 million ransom.
