Federal Government has named the headquarters of News Agency Nigeria (NAN) after former Chief Press Secretary to President Muhammadu Buhari, Wada Maida.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed said the government approved the proposal to immortalise the late Maida in recognition of the role he played in making NAN the respectable agency it is today in his lifetime.
He described the deceased as a colossus of journalism and a national icon, who deserved the honour being bestowed given his immense contribution to the development of journalism.
Mohammed said the late Maida’s accomplishment was not restricted to NAN alone as he was a former President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, a distinguished member of the Newspaper Proprietors’ Association of Nigeria and a one-time Executive Director of the International Press Institute.
He said the brand of journalism he practiced was developmental as he believed that journalism serves a higher purpose, which includes ensuring the development, peace and unity of a nation.
Wada Maida died I August 19, 2020 at the age of 70.
