At least 16 civilians and vigilantes were killed by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) jets in Zamfara State.
Some of the the vigilantes who were wounded were immediately moved to healthcare facilities in Kaura Namoda, Zurmi, and Kaya for medical treatment.
NAF on Friday and Saturday, hit multiple incursions by bandits in the state.
The coordinated military action involving both ground and air assaults went after the bandits, but also hit the vigilantes who suffered casualties.
PRNigeria reports that Lakurawa terrorists moved toward Bagega village in Anka Local Government Area (LGA), while the Turji faction attempted to infiltrate Tsafe.
NAF jets bombed the bandits as they retreated to more remote areas in the Maradun and Zurmi axes. The airstrikes were complemented by ground troops and local vigilantes, who inflicted significant casualties on the fleeing assailants.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for Operation Fansan Yamma, Lt. Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, said the troops will keep taking the war to the terrorist.
“Our troops remain steadfast in their commitment to eradicating these threats,” he stated. Lt. Colonel Abdullahi also reassured the public of the military’s unwavering dedication to restoring peace and security in the affected communities.’
