Justice Mu’azu Abubakar of the High Court of Bauchi State has sentenced a former chief accountant of Bauchi State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Kawu Chindo and a support staff from the State Accountant General’s office, Ali Baba, to seven years and three months imprisonment.
The suspects were charged on a five count charge of conspiracy and obtaining by false pretences brought against them by the Gombe Zonal Command of EFCC.
The duo were accused by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development of issuing fake tellers and receipts as evidence of payment to intending pilgrims to the 2019 Hajj.
They were further accused of not remitting the total sum of N73, 715,286.62 into the board’s account.
