My suspension by NNPP baseless — Rep Rurum
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on TelegramShare on WhatsApp

Rep. Kabiru Rurum, member representing Rano/Kibiya/Bunkure Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has rejected his suspension from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) Kano State chapter.

Rurum told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Monday that his suspension was baseless and in contempt of court, saying he remained a member of the party.

Rurum said that he and his other allegedly suspended colleagues belonged to a different NNPP faction.

He accused the Kano NNPP leadership of defying legal rulings, stating that they were not legitimate party leaders.

Rurum cited a court judgment that dismissed their claims and maintained that they took him to an Abia High Court, adding that the court was yet to rule on the matter.

He alleged that the party’s leadership, including its national leader, Rabiu Kwankwaso, was invited to Sen. Kawu Sumaila’s, one of the affected lawmakers, daughter’s wedding but they chose not to attend.

Rurum dismissed the suspension as meaningless, stating that his faction operated independently.

He emphasised that the suspension only applied to the faction that issued it, as his group was not affiliated to them.

This development adds to the deepening rift within the NNPP, with ongoing legal battles and political tensions further widening the divide between the two factions.

The News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) reports that the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Kano State Chapter, earlier on Monday announced the suspension of four of its National Assembly members over alleged anti-party activities.

Alhaji Hashimu Dungurawa, the state chairman of the party, announced the suspension while addressing newsmen.

He told newsmen that the suspended lawmakers were Kawu Sumaila, Ali Gini, Sani Rogo and Kabiru Rurum.
