The Board of Zenith Bank Plc on Tuesday announced the appointment of Mustafa Bello as the new chairman.
Here are 10 things to know about him:
1. Born in 1954, he is a 1978 graduate of Civil Engineering from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, where he graduated with a Second Class Upper Division and won the Shell Prize for the best engineering project and thesis.
2. He was the Minister of Commerce from June 1999 – December 2002.
3. Between November 2003 and February 2014, he was the CEO of Nigeria Import Promotion Commission (NIPC).
4. He also served[ on the board of FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria Plc as non-executive board member for 8 years.
5. He is the Chairman of the Invest-In-Northern Nigeria Limited, a position he has held since 2014.
6. He was appointed Non-executive Board member of Zenith Bank Plc in December 2017.
7. He is from Niger State.
8. In 2003, he contested the Niger governorship election on the platform of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP).
9. He was once described by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, under whom he served, “dutiful minister.”
10. Until his appointment, he was the longest-serving director.
