Dozens of Qadiriyya Sufi faithfuls have conducted a funeral prayer in absentia known Islamic as Salatul Ghaib in honour of the late Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The funeral prayer was held at the Darul Qadiriyya residence in the Kabara quarters of the ancient city of Kano on Monday. The historic residence belonged to the late Sheikh Nasiru Kabara, who until his death in 1993, was widely regarded as the leader of the Qadiriyya movement in Africa.
The prayer was led by Sheikh Muazzamu Nasiru Kabara, the eldest son of the late spiritual leader, shortly after the Asr prayer. Faithful who attended the gathering offered supplications, asking Allah to grant the deceased eternal mercy and blessings.
Among prominent clerics present were Sheikh Musal Qasiyuni Nasiru Kabara, known for his daily Ramadan tafsir sessions on Kitab Al-Shifa at the Darul Qadiriyya among many ithers. He also shared a video of the prayer on his verified Facebook page, where he had earlier informed followers of plans to conduct the special rite.
The funeral prayer prayer in absentia is Islamic ally performed for a deceased Muslim whose body is not physically present for burial rites.
Late Ayatollah Khamenei was reported to have died following an Israeli airstrike over the weekend.
