The Nigerian military has commenced a 7-day operations covering Benue, Nasarawa and Taraba, to clear the states of bandits and militias.
A military source told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE that the operation, conducted by troops of operations Whirl Stroke (OPWS), was to check rising criminal attacks in villages in the affected states.
He said the operation would cover islands and hideout that harbour criminal gangs in Benue and Nasrawa states.
“The clearing operation will also be covering the Sankera axis of of Benue state which is Logo, Ukum and Katsina-Ala local government area down to Yoyo River and Kwente in Kwande local government area of Benue state where an armed militia, led by one Chekere alias Azonto terrorizes the locals,” the source said.
