The Minister of State for Works and Housing, Engr Abubakar D. Aliyu, has urged the Nigerian youths to adopt mentorship as an avenue of enhancing their leadership skills.
The minister disclosed this on Thursday in his office in Abuja after he was bestowed with Sir Ahmadu Bello Platinum Award of ‘Garkuwan Matasan Arewa,’ by the Northern Youths Council of Nigeria (NYCN).
“The youths must deepen their professional and leadership capabilities by emulating some of the great leaders in the country. Mentorship is a key in bracing up to the challenges of tomorrow,” he said.
Engineer Aliyu said the youths must imbibe the culture of selflessness and patriotism in their quest to be part of critical stakeholders in the governance of this country.
“Competence must go pari passu with patriotism and selfless service. It is only through that Nigeria will reach its desired destination. Therefore, the youths who are bracing up to serve at all levels of governance must be fully equipped for the onerous task,” he said.
In his speech earlier, NYCN president Dr Isah Abubakar said the minister was chosen for the award based on his sustained passion and commitment in the execution of Nigeria’s infrastructure roadmap, and philanthropic activities that saw dozens orphans being catered for, and provided with quality education.
