Mexico advanced to the knockout stage of the Olympics with 3-0 win over South Africa despite both teams being reduced to 10 men.
Alexis Vega scored the first goal with a right footed shot from very close range to the top left corner 18 minutes into the game.
Luis Romo doubled Mexico’s lead with a right footed shot from the right side of the six yard box to the center of the goal following a corner just before half time.
Henry Martín completed the onslaught with a right footed shot from the center of the box to the bottom right corner to make it three, right after Tercious Malepe of South Africa was shown a red card.
Mexico was also reduced to 10 men when Carlos Rodríguez was also shown a red card for foul on Luther Singh 66 minutes into the game.
In another match, Japan beat France 4-0 to qualify to the knockout stage as the team remains unbeaten in the tournament.
