President Bola Tinubu has condoled members and leaders of the Tijjaniyya Movement in Nigeria following the death of 40 members in an auto crash on Sunday in Kaduna State.
In a statement on Tuesday by his spokesperson, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu conveyed his sympathies with the Nigerian muslims communities and families who lost their loved ones in the ghastly accident.
The statement is titled “President Tinubu Mourns 40 Participants Killed in Auto Crash.”
The Muslim worshippers were travelling from Kwandari in Plateau State to Saminaka, Kaduna State to mark Eid-el-Maulud — Prophet Muhammad’s birthday.
The bus conveying the celebrants was overrun by an oncoming truck near the town of Lere, an organiser of the Eid celebration reported.
Several others were injured and are receiving treatment.
Tinubu “extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and injured, as well as to the governments of Kaduna and Plateau states,” said Onanuga.
He also prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed.
The President has also directed the Federal Road Safety Commission to enhance highway monitoring and reduce the number of road accidents nationwide.
