Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina state has directed the closure of Batsari – Jibia road as kidnapping and killing of motorists on the road persists.
This was disclosed in a statement by the press secretary, office of the Secretary State Government, Abdullahi Aliyu Yar’adua on Wednesday.
He said the road will remain closed due to an increase in attacks along the road.
Batsari and Jibia are among the two worst hit areas in terms of bandits’ activities.
“This is contained in the Executive Order issued today in line with the powers conferred on the Governor by sub – section 2 of section 176 of the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria,” the statement said.
He said the Kankara – Sheme road should be reopened to users with immediate effect while the Jibia – Zurmi should remain closed till further notice.
The Kankara – Sheme, Jibia – Zurmi roads were shut down last year as parts of government efforts to curtail incessant bandits’ activities.
