A 41-year-old man, Lucky Isuma, is in police custody following the sudden death of his alleged married lover, identified simply as Sandra, at his residence in the Sabon Gari area of Kano.
The incident, which occurred over the weekend, has sparked shock among residents of the predominantly non-native community.
Sandra, said to be a mother of five whose husband is still alive, reportedly collapsed and died inside Isuma’s home shortly after requesting a meal. Neighbours disclosed that she had been a frequent visitor to the house.
According to a resident familiar with the pair, there was no sign of any quarrel before the incident. “She had asked for food, and her male friend went out to get it. Before he returned, she had passed away,” the source said.
Mr Isuma is currently being held at the Bompai Police Headquarters, where he is assisting investigators to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
Confirming the incident, the Kano State Police Command spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the case was first reported by a neighbour when it happened.
“On April 11, 2026, at about 10:30 a.m., one Chidera Nwobi of No. 47 Aitken Road, Sabon Gari, reported at the Sabon Gari Police Division that he found an adult female lying unconscious on a bed in the room of his neighbour, Lucky Isuma,” Kiyawa said.
He added that detectives were immediately deployed to the scene, where the victim was examined and no visible signs of violence were found on her body.
Kiyawa said the woman was subsequently taken to Muhammadu Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital, where she was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
He said her body may undergo an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
